Spain are looking for their first World Cup victory in Russia over Iran, who are currently leaders of the Group B table, on Wednesday, June 20 at the Kazan Arena. The Spanish side drew their first match in a nail biting face-off against Portugal.

The Spanish side started off the tournament with what seemed to be a shaky performance, as the side’s preferred goal keeper, David De Gea, gave a poor performance by conceding from all three of Portuguese Star Cristiano Ronaldo’s attempts on target. The second goal was especially disappointing, since it seemed to be an easy save for the 27-year-old Manchester United Keeper.

According to a poll on Spanish newspaper AS, almost 50 per cent of 40,000 said they wanted Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, to start against Iran. But despite the criticism by Spanish media, Spain head coach Fernando Hierro had no second thoughts on his decision to play De Gea for the next match.

“David de Gea will be in the starting line-up,” said Hierro. “We have full trust in him.”

The Iran Head Coach, Carlos Quiroz, has guided three national teams to four World Cups.

“For us, it’s a privilege and an honor to be here. It’s a unique opportunity for us to play against Spain,” he said, proving he is hopeful and optimistic about his clash against the footballing Giants Spain. “When we defend, which we will have to for many moments, we will fight collectively. What we cannot do is to defend and then surrender, that would be dishonest.”

The World Cup 2018 Spain vs Iran match will be played at Kazan Arena. The stadium hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade opening and closing ceremonies, and 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. It will also host the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Its capacity is around 45,379.
