Just days after Kate Spade’s death, brother-in-law David Spade headed back to the stage at the Brea Improv Comedy Club in southern California on Friday evening.
After taking the stage, David said, “Thank you for coming, it was a rough week, but I didn’t want to cancel and I appreciate you all coming out here. And, if my jokes don’t work then I get sort of a free pass.”
His set was well-received and his mood became cheerier as the night progressed. He performed at the club again on Saturday..
David took to social media to post tributes to his sister-in-law. He posted a picture of the both of them on Instagram during Christmas, captioning it, “Fuzzy picture but i love it. Kate and I during Christmas family photos. We had so much fun that day. She was so sharp and quick on her feet. She could make me laugh so hard. I still cant believe it. Its a rough world out there people, try to hang on.”
He also posted a sweet message on Twitter alongside a picture of him and Kate at a book-signing of his. He wrote, “Katy at my book signing. I love this pic of her. So pretty. I dont think everyone knew how fucking funny she was… Its a rough world out there people. Try to hang on.”
After his appearances in California, Spade is also due to perform four dates at the Terry Fator Theatre at the Mirage Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.
