Prince Harry and Meghan Markle planning to tour Australia and several neighboring countries including New Zealand, Kensington Palace announced on Monday.
Kensington Palace shared a post on their Twitter account which revealed the news.
It wrote, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will undertake an official visit to Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, and New Zealand in the Autumn. The tour will fall on the occasion of @InvictusSydney 2018.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have planned to tour the countries which are part of the Commonwealth, including Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga and finally, New Zealand. The newlyweds are planning to coincide with the Invictus Game, a sporting event which will take place in Sydney this Autumn.
The Invictus Games, invented by Prince Harry in 2014, is an international multi-sport event in which the wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sports. Every year, the Games are held in a different city.
Prince Harry, the second son of heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, was the first of the Royal family to participate in a war zone.
The Invictus Games is an important event for the royal newlyweds. In the 2017 Games which were held in Toronto, Canada, the pair made their first ever public appearance together.
In a statement, Malcolm Turnbull, the Australian Prime Minister said that the Australians would happily meet the couple. He said, “I know the Australian people will greet Their Royal Highnesses with great warmth and excitement wherever they go during their time here.”
He further added how Prince Harry had successfully managed The Games, he said, “The Duke of Sussex has become a champion for war veterans around the world, including in Australia.”
Then continued to say that his presence would make the event all the more merry. He expressed, “His attendance, alongside The Duchess of Sussex, will be a wonderful highlight for the more than 500 competitors and thousands of spectators.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, ever since their wedding in Windsor Castle in May, have been following in Prince Harry’s parents’ footsteps.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana also took a tour to Australia and New Zealand after their wedding as their first trip together.
