Research has proved that a slice of pizza for breakfast is ‘healthier’ than a bowl of cereal!
Yes, you heard that right! Life just got a whole lot better, didn’t it? Well before you start binging on pizza all morning, let’s discover what dietary experts have to say about this.
Since time immemorial, kids are told to eat meals with a balanced diet. Well according to food expert, Chelsey Amer, pizza is a much more balanced food item than cereal. Yes cereal, which a large number of population has for breakfast nowadays.
She estimated the number of calories present in both meals and said, “You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories.”
“However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning” she added.
Chelsey Amer has a Masters of Science, Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition from New York University. She provides food and nutrition counseling to clients on an individual and group basis.
Chelsey apprises people on the importance of a healthy diet and helps them create meal plans for a better diet intake. She also regularly writes for food and nutrition magazines.
The accomplished dietitian did make sure to clarify that, while she does not endorse pizza as a healthy option for breakfast, it is definitely a much richer meal than cereal.
Chelsey claims that a slice of pizza contains a much higher rate of protein and lesser sugar than a bowl of cereal! Wow, that’s brand new information!
She further explained how cereal, right in the morning, is actually not a very good idea. Most cereals contain one-third sugar intake and contain as much sugar as a chocolate bar. Uh oh.
She stated, “I love cereal as much as the next person, but many sugary cereals contain as much sugar as a candy bar! I don’t know about you, but a sugar is not how I like to start my day.”
Sugars are a kind of carbohydrate that are broken down by the digestive system in our body into glucose, which gives us the energy to do things.
Our body breaks down sugars into glucose at a much faster rate than other substances, which implies that they get absorbed into the blood system fairly quickly. This way, the energy one gets from sugars does not keep us energized for very long.
However, if sugars are taken with other dietary ingredients like protein and fibers then absorption rate is slowed down, keeping us energized for a longer period of time.
