Hey There Delilah was released in May 2006 as the third single from Plain White T’s third studio album, All That We Needed. It reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 2007. Since its release, the song has been featured into many TV shows including Orange is the New Black and Family Guy.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the song is now getting scripted into its very own TV show based on long distance relationships. The band has partnered up with Lively McCabe Entertainment and Primary Wave to develop a ‘romantic dramedy’. Producers Tom Higgenson, who is the lead singer of the band, and Jeremy Desmon will pitch the show to networks and studios this month.

Higgenson said, “It’s been more than a decade since ‘Hey There Delilah’ was released, and people always ask me about it. A whole lot of people really connected with that song, and I’m very proud of that. I’m so excited to have an opportunity to give a new generation the chance to form their own connection with the song, and fall in love with its story through this new project.

Higgenson came up with the concept of the TV show alongside Desmon and Michael Barra from Lively Entertainment. Deb Klein from Primary Wave is another producer of the show as well.

Barra said, “‘Hey There Delilah’ is a perfect example of an iconic story song that has introduced characters and a premise to a massive multigenerational audience, and is begging to be expanded into a full-length story for contemporary television audiences. Lively McCabe is thrilled to be working with Tom, Deb and Jeremy to bring it to life on the screen.”

The song’s music video can give fans some hint as to how the show will be. In the video, Higgenson sings in a room while a split screen shows the girlfriend he is singing to walking around New York City, presumably from a college class to her job.

There is currently no indication of the projected cast or release date for the ‘Hey There Delilah’ TV show.
