HBO is definitely planning a Game of Thrones prequel series, and will be starting production in June. However, HBO’s Programming President Casey Bloys says a Game of Thrones spin-off  starring Maisie Williams as Arya Stark will not happen. At the end of show, Arya Stark ventured off an adventure, hoping to find whatever lies “West of Westeros”.

Game of Thrones spin-off?

Fans of the show immediately demanded a spin-off, and GOT cast member Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau fed the flames with fire with his comments on Instagram. He said, “It’s kinda sad. What a great 10 years. Thank you so much for watching. I’m just grateful. That episode, it was amazing! I really thought it was a great ending. And Arya… I know they’re doing all these prequels, but what about the sequel? With Arya? How about – I’m just throwing something out here – how about a petition? An online petition to HBO that they do a sequel with Arya Stark.”

Maybe Not

Weighing in on calls for a spin-off about the adventures Arya would have, Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter, “Nope, nope, nope. No. Part of it is, I do want this show — this Game of Thrones, Dan and David’s show — to be its own thing. I don’t want to take characters from this world that they did beautifully and put them off into another world with someone else creating it.”

He added, “I want to let it be the artistic piece they’ve got. That’s one of the reasons why I’m not trying to do the same show over. George has a massive, massive world; there are so many ways in. That’s why we’re trying to do things that feel distinct — and to not try and redo the same show. That’s probably one of the reasons why, right now, a sequel or picking up any of the other characters doesn’t make sense for us.”
