Sugarland released a teaser of the music video for their new teaser trailer, Babe, at the CMT awards last night and it featured Taylor Swift in a red wig as the ‘other woman’.

Swift and Patrick Monahan had originally written Babe to be featured in her album Red. Since it didn’t make the cut, she gave the song to Sugarland to record as the second single for their upcoming album, Bigger. The song is based on the struggles of staying in a relationship after you find out your partner has cheated on you. The song was released in April 2018.
In the video, Jennifer Nettles and Taylor Swift seem to be the center of attention as the loving housewife and other woman respectively. Brandon Routh guest stars as the cheating husband.
The aesthetic of the video seems based on Mad Men. Swift’s hair and outfit is a stark homage to Joan P. Holloway, while Routh said he cut his hair to look more like Don Draper for the video. Swift’s character in this video could be another commentary on her man-eater reputation; she has done similar plays on this with songs like Blank Space.
While at the CMA’s in April, Sugarland talked about the process of obtaining this song and working with Swift. Nettles said, “She was excited that we were getting back together. She said ‘Hey, I have a song…’ and we said ‘Yep! We’ve obviously known each other for many years when she was just getting started. We just had our first EP out called Premium Quality Tunes. She still has a copy of it that we signed for her.”
This is the first time Sugarland have included a track written by another artist in any of their albums.
In a video posted to her Instagram, Swift also talked about the song and what it meant for Sugarland to have released it. She said, “It’s a song that I wrote with Pat Monahan when I was making the Red album, and I’m so happy that it gets its own life. I’m so happy that Sugarland wanted to record it and has done such a great job with it, and I’m so stoked I get to sing on it too.”
Sugarland’s new album, which is set to release on Friday, will be their first since 2010’s The Incredible Machine. The group went on hiatus in 2012 to pursue solo ventures and reunited in 2017.
Babe is Swift’s second venture back into country music since her move to pop with her hit album 1989. Before this, she also penned Better Man for Little Big Town.
