Disney just released the first trailer for Mary Poppins Returns, and the shots of the upcoming movie look absolutely magical! It features a return to Cherry Lane, 54 years after the release of the first film.
The first movie was released in 1964, with Julie Andrews playing the part of Mary Poppins. The movie followed the adventures of two children, Jane and Michael, after Poppins was hired as their nanny. Along the way, the children tried to get their parents to ease up and enjoy life as well, making for a hearty and warm family film.

The new movie, Mary Poppins Returns, is set about 20 years after the first one. Mary, played in the film by Emily Blunt, returns to Jane and Michael after a family tragedy. The film is set in 1930s London and will still feature Cherry Lane, where Michael continues to live with his three children and a housekeeper.
The production of the film was announced in 2015, with Rob Marshall taking on the role of the director. Principal photography began in February 2017 and wrapped up in July 2017. The film is set to release on December 25, 2018, 54 years after the release of the first one. This is the longest gap between live-action film sequels in history.
The cast is star-studded: Emily Blunt will play Mary Poppins, Lin Manuel-Miranda will appear as Jack the lamplighter (apprentice to Burt in the original Mary Poppins), and Meryl Streep will appear as Topsy Turvy-Poppins, Mary Poppins’ eccentric cousin. Other members of the cast include Ben Whinshaw, Emily Mortimer, Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, Nathanael Saleh, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, David Warner, Jeremy Smith, Tarik Frimpong and Dick van Dyke. Dyke is the only returning actor from the original Mary Poppins.
