A man with a pickaxe destroyed President Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday. The vandal later turned himself in to the police.
Trump received the star in 2007 during the time when the Apprentice was most popular. However, the star was actually dedicated to Trump’s work as a producer of the Miss Universe pageant. Even though Hollywood stars are a sign of prestige, the actual honor is not that difficult to achieve. Stars need to express an interest in having one and have to submit a $30,000 application fee.
NBC LA‘s Jonathan Gonzalez reported the news first, writing, “Multiple people — including police — tell me a man walked up with a guitar case and pulled out the pick axe. Then, it’s believed, he called police himself to report it, but left the scene before they got here.” He also tweeted out a picture of the rubble left from Trump’s star.
According to LA Times, the vandal “called police and advised he had vandalized Donald Trump’s star and basically called on himself and said, ‘See you soon,‘” said Lieutenant Karen Leong of the LAPD’s Hollywood Division. Private security attempted to stop the vandal but they were unable to stop him because they do not possess police powers. The man fled the scene before anyone present could stop him from destroying the star.
An hour after the crime was done, the man went up to the police and turned himself in. LAPD officials picked him up and took him in, and he was still being interviewed by 6am. He is likely to be convicted of felony vandalism.
A witness told CNN that she saw a man “going to town” on the star “like it was his business just to be tearing up the ground.” She added that she had assumed there was work going on there.
The vandal follows in the footsteps of 2016’s James Lambert Otis, who destroyed the star in October. Otis publicly came forward to claim the destruction, telling CNN that he defaced the star in honor of the women Trump sexually assaulted. He was sentenced to three years’ probation, 20 days of community service and a $4,400 charge.
In 2017, someone defaced the star by writing “F**k Trump” and the star has been the subject of other protest art as well. An artist previously built a small wall around the star as well to build a border between the US and Mexico.
Twitter had a field day with the destruction of the star, with people coming out in hoards to express their glee. President Trump has yet to comment on (or tweet about) the defaced star himself.
If anyone knows the person who allegedly vandalized Donald Trump's Hollywood Star please refer to me. I'd represent him|her|them for free.

The star is one of 2600 others placed along Hollywood Boulevard.
