Robert Downey Jr. has finally revealed that he is making his way back to Baker Street as he confirmed the upcoming trilogy of Sherlock Holmes.
During his interview with EW, Robert Downey Jr. finally announced his cinematic return as the world’s most brilliant detective in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes.
After being questioned on ‘what’s next’ in his career, Downey briefly told EW about the list of films the actor will be working on.
He said, “There’s all this stuff down the pike. We’re looking at another Sherlock Holmes, we’re developing Perry Mason for HBO. I still want to do Pinocchio.”
However, there is a little delay in the production of the highly-praised movie, as the project has been stuck in development for a while now. Currently working on his live adaptation of Aladdin, Guy Ritchie has still not disclosed when the third part of his Sherlock franchise will be in production.
Downey has blessed us with numerous performances like his role in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, his Oscar nominated portrayal of Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin, and his underrated performance in Zodiac. Additionally, his ingenious role as Iron Man is appreciated worldwide, because of the finest performance he brings on to the character on the big screen.
During his downhill phase, Downey decided to make a comeback as one of Hollywood’s A-list actors by agreeing to the role of detective Holmes in Ritchie’s popular franchise.
Released in the year 2009, Sherlock Holmes along with his partner Dr. Watson, played by Oscar-nominee, Jude Law, engages in a battle with nemesis, Lord Blackwood, who was a threat to all of England.
The film was a massive success and therefore, the seque was instantly approved.
The sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, was released in 2011. In the second part, Holmes once again joins forces with Dr. Watson to bring down his arch-nemesis, Professor Moriarty.
Although the movie is still not in the production stage, Downey’s clear indication to the trilogy tells us it will happen very soon!
