Selena Gomez has been admitted to the hospital for the second time in the last few months due to anxiety and a persistently low blood cell count.
The 26 year old singer has entered a treatment facility for the issues she has related to anxiety and leukopenia.
A source told E!:
“Selena has been trying really hard recently to remain focused, and not let her health affect her. She has been actively writing new music, and moved to Orange County for a change of pace and a fresh breath of air. Ultimately, with all of her arising health issues, Selena started to feel super overwhelmed.”
Gomez was admitted to Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles after her white blood cell count dropped. This condition is called leukopenia and is common for those with Lupus. She was admitted for this before during the last week of September and a family member had to drive her to the hospital. She was released days later but had to be admitted again when her blood cell count did not rise.
According to TMZ, her persistent bad health threw Gomez into an “emotional breakdown”. The singer asked the doctors if she could leave hours after she was admitted, but she was not allowed. She is now receiving treatment for Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which treats various mental health disorders. She has been treated for this before.
A source told People that Gomez suffered a panic attack during her second visit to the hospital.
They said: “She has had a tough few weeks and the panic attack in the hospital was the tipping point. She realized she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues. She’s surrounded by close family and has a lot of support. She’s doing better now and is seeking treatment on the East Coast.”
Gomez announced on September 23 that she was taking another break from social media, writing, “Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”
The last picture of her being out and about is from September 27, when she posed for a photo with fans in Newport Beach, CA.
