Sarah Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy on Modern Family, shared a brutally honest selfie, showing her swollen face after being hospitalised, on her Instagram story, on June 22.
The 27-year-old actress suffers from a chronic kidney condition, known as kidney dysplasia, but she has made sure not to stay behind other celebrities by sharing her selfie for National Selfie Day. Unfortunately for her and her fans, the picture had to come from a hospital bed.
She wrote under her selfie, “Sometimes a selfie is more than just a good angle and feeling cute. This time for #nationalselfieday I’ve decided to share my truth. As painful as it is.”
She further wrote, “So here is my face that was torn from work against my will. But I’m always grateful it was. Health should always come first,” with the hashtag #stayhealthymyfriends
In another post, Hyland had told her fans that she has been hospitalised since Monday, as she shared a video of her dog cuddling with her on the hospital bed. She wrote, “Can’t wait to come back to my precious angel princess. She’s perfect and knows exactly what I need at all times.
“This was taken this past Sunday. (The) day before hospitalization. She was literally telling me to get treatment.”
Hyland has been struggling with health issues since quite some time now. In 2012, she even went public after having a kidney transplant.
A few months ago, Sarah shared a picture on her Instagram story of her relaxing in her cosy clothes with her rescue dog, Nurse Boo. She wrote under the picture, “Life for the next six to eight weeks.” The statement really worried her fans as they took to Twitter to wish her well.
One fan wrote, “
@Sarah_Hyland six to eight weeks on the couch? What’s going on, lady? I hope you’re okay!” While another one wrote, “Whatever is going on, I hope you feel better!”

After receiving a lot of wishes and concerns, Hyland took to Twitter to let her fans know exactly what was going on as she asked fans who were suffering from a chronic illness a question that had her worried. She tweeted, “For those who are chronically ill and in chronic pain: Have you had the experience of doctors not listening to you? If so, how do you not tear their heads off with your bare hands? :)”
Fans took to Twitter to wish her a good health and speedy recovery.
