Robert Pattinson is the next Batman for Warner Bros, with production for the new movie starting this summer. Pattinson is taking over from Ben Affleck.
According to Variety, Robert Pattinson is currently in discussions to play Batman in the upcoming Matt Reeves’ superhero film. The movie is scheduled to hit June 25 in 2021, and while Pattinson is not officially announced as the next choice, the deal is expected to be closed very soon.
Pre-production for Reeves’ project will start this summer. The Planet of the Apes director has been working on the movie with Dylan Clark since he took over directing duties from Ben Affleck in 2017. After Justice League, Affleck decided to step down from the role himself, leaving Warner Bros to allow Reeves to pick his own candidate for Bruce Wayne.
Pattinson gained international fame and recognition with his role in the Twilight franchise, and the 33 year old actor will e the second youngest actor to play the role. The youngest ever was Christian Bale, who was 31 when he acted in Batman Begins in 2005. While an official date for filming has not yet been decided, sources told Variety that filming would start in late 2019 or early 2020.
Pattinson has been in four films opening this year, including High Life, The Lighthouse, The King and Waiting for the Barbarians. He is also about to start shooting for another Warner Bros film directed by Christopher Nolan and co-starring John David Washington. The movie is set to release on July 17, 2020.
Warner Brothers has not officially commented on the deal.
