68-year-old Pretty Woman star Richard Gere is set to be a father with his 35-year-old wife, Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva. The couple married in April after four years of dating.
Gere and Silva met at a luxury Italian hotel which Alejandra purchased with her former husband Govind Friedland, who is the son of mining magnate Robert Friedland. The couple were managing the hotel together at the time. Their relationship became pulic in 2015 and the couple married in a civil ceremony in Madrid, Spain, in April after four years of dating. They then had a blessing with their family and friends in America near Gere’s New York residence. At the time, Gere told reporters, “I am the happiest man in the universe, how could I not be?”
Spanish daily newspaper ABC reported that Alejandra is pregnant with the couple’s first child. It also mentioned that it was as yet unclear whether the child will be born and raised in Alejandra’s native Spain or America. The couple spend most of their time in the latter.
Gere was married to Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995, and then married Carey Lowell in 2002. He split up with her in September 2013. Both Gere and Silva have children from their previous marriages. Richard has an 18 year old son called Homer with Lowell, and Alejandra has a 5 year old son Alberto with Friedland.
Alejandra, who is a Galician-born daughter of a former Vice President of Real Madrid, talked to Hola magazine in September 2016 about Gere, saying, “Richard has been my hero in real life. I was a little lost, without light, and meeting him gave sense to my life. I felt like someone was stretching out his hand and showing me the true path.”
Gere and Silva are yet to comment on the exciting news themselves yet.
