In a new interview, Pete Davidson says he feels like Ariana Grande hit her head when she accepted his proposal, and she will soon change her mind.
Davidson spoke to Variety about how his life has changed recently. Among other changes, the comic rose up in the ranks at SNL and got engaged to singer Ariana Grande.
He said he was attracted to her back when she appeared on SNL the first time, saying, “I was obviously ogling and trying not to be creepy.” He said it took them a while to get together because “We didn’t know another person could feel — or treat a person — like that.”
He also talked about how he proposed to Grande, saying, “I didn’t want to do something corny. We were in bed hanging, after watching a movie. I was like, ‘Will you marry me?’ It was really dope.”
Addressing the fact that she said yes when they had not been going out for that long of a time, he joked, “I’m still convinced she’s blind or hit her head really hard. Something is going to happen, and she’s going to be like, ‘What the f— is this thing doing around?’ For right now, it’s rocking.”
Davidson also talked about his career on SNL, saying, “If my dad didn’t die, I wouldn’t be a comic. I’d be a construction worker in Staten Island or a basketball coach.”
He also said that when he had started on SNL at the age of 20 as the fourth youngest person on the show, he had never thought he would last so long on it. He said, “I’d assumed I’m going to get fired and I’d have this credit.”
Davidson talked about mental health issues as well, saying, “I’ve been in and out of mental health facilities since I was 9,” he says. “I tried to drown myself in the pool when I was in the fourth or fifth grade. I was trying to get my head stuck in the ladder in the deep end, so I would not be able to get up. But I’m too much of a p***y, and my head is too small.”
Davidson and Grande have not yet announced when they will be tying the knot.
