Olivia Attwood does not blame ‘Love Island’ for the death of her co-star Mike Thalassitis. The two were together on season 3 of the show.
Mike’s body was found in the woods near his Essex home on Saturday. The police said that the star took his own life. After the news spread, ‘Love Island’ bosses announced that they would be making changes to the show and ensuring that the people that took part would be safeguarded after fans criticized the show for not providing aftercare.
Attwood and Thalassitis were both fan favorites on the show due to the love triangle they were in with Olivia’s ex Chris Hughes. The two did not stay in touch after the show wrapped up its third season but she has now spoken up to say it is “totally ludicrous to blame” the Love Island creators for Mike’s passing.
While speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine, she said, “People are angry and they want someone to blame. Mike was in turmoil and a lot of his problems weren’t to do with Love Island at all,” adding, “It isn’t an aftercare situation but a “before care”. You need to be obligated to do a certain amount of therapy before going on Love Island to prepare you.”
Talking about her own experience, she said, “Love Island saved me. I got a lot of heat in the villa for the way I was, but after I came out so many girls said how they related to me. I finally found this sense of self-acceptance that I never had before.”
Another Love Island star, Sophie Gradon, passed away last year.
