Nicki Minaj has shocked fans by showing off what seems to be her new relationship with a registered harasser, Kenneth Petty.
Petty was convicted of first degree attempted rape back in 1995. In 1994, he had an altercation with a 16 year old girl according to his record in the New York Division of Criminal Justice Services.
The Services said he used a knife against the girl in an attempted assault. He was sentenced for 18 to 54 months jail time for his offense, but it is unclear how long he served.
In 2006, he was again in trouble with the law after being convicted of manslaughter of a man named Lamont Robinson. He reportedly shot a gun near the victim several times, which eventually culminated in his death.
For the latter offense, Petty served seven years in jail and was released in 2013.
Minaj first posted pictures of her and Petty, captioning them with Adele’s song Hello. She wrote, “Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happens?… it’s no secret… that the both of us… are running out of time…”
After fans expressed concerns and even anger with Minaj dating this person, she posted another video with the caption, ‘They wanna talk? Let’s give’m smthn to talk about. *Shania voice*”
After additional backlash, the rapper also went ahead and disabled comments on her Instagram post.
Minaj has a long past with men who have a history with abuse and harassment against minors in particular. Her own brother Jelani Maraj was convicted of sexually abusing an 11 year girl in November of last year.
She also publicly supported and defended Tekashi6ix9ine, who was convicted of using a child in a sexual context in 2015. The rapper and collaborator appeared with a 13 year old in a sexually explicit video.
In the past, Minaj has dated Meek Mill, Safaree Samuels and Nas.
Minaj has not yet directly spoken out about her controversial new relationship.
