Despite being engaged, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have not made any plans of walking down the aisle, and may never do it.
According to TMZ, sources close to the couple have relayed that the legal process of marriage is not that important to the couple. They are engaged because of their commitment to one another, but the ring does not mean that a wedding is in the works for the two.
The source also said that Liam and Miley live like a married couple even now, and have very little drama between them. One source said, “They’re both super chill and grounded. They’re perfect for each other.” They also apparently laugh together at all the breakup stories written about them.
Cyrus echoed similar sentiments during an appearance on The Ellen Show in October 2016. When asked about her engagement and ring, Cyrus said, “I actually don’t really talk about it that much but I think that something that people should understand is that being young people in general, what we wear and what a relationship and a commitment means is very different to what tabloids like to make it mean.”
She also added that to her the ring is the commitment, not the legal document at the end of the road. She explained, “I even think young people have a different idea of partnering and not feeling that this necessarily means this is gonna have a legal document signed and dated because it’s really sharing a life with someone and not about a legal paper that tells me anything.”
She went on to confirm that she does not want to get married, despite thinking marriage equality is essential, “Even though I fought so hard for LGBTQ rights to be able to get married, but I don’t even really want to get married.”
She also joked about her engagement ring being paired with candy jewelry, saying, “Actually it’s very weird because this is like real jewelry and most of my jewelry is made out of like gummy bears and cotton candy and they don’t look that good together ’cause they kind of mix up.”
She added that she sometimes replaces the diamond with candy sometimes and Liam gets confused by it. She explained, “Sometimes I replace it with an actual unicorn or Looney tune and he’s like ‘What’s going on?’ and I’m like this isn’t really my aesthetic but I’ll wear it cause you love me.”
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth originally got engaged in 2012. They then broke up in 2013 and got engaged again in 2016.
