Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, who have been engaged for several years seemingly without plans for tying the knot, confirm their marriage in sweet posts on social media.
The couple got married on Sunday and just confirmed the news on social media a few hours ago. Their wedding took place in Franklin, Tennessee where the couple own a home.
The ceremony was small and intimate and attended just by family and close friends. The guests included Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus.
A source told People, “They always wanted a small, private celebration with family and close friends and that’s what they got. Miley seems ecstatic. She loves her Tennessee home and was very happy about having the ceremony there.”
The couple originally intended for the wedding to be held in their Malibu home, but it was burned down in California’s wildfire. In November, Cyrus let fans know of what had happened, adding that she and Hemsworth were safe. The couple donated $500,000 to The Malibu Foundation after the disaster.
Their wedding surprised many fans online who thought Cyrus was not an advocate of marriage, but the source revealed, “In the past, any time Miley would talk about getting married to Liam, she would always have a huge smile. She has been wanting to get married to Liam for years. Everyone is very excited for them. Miley’s family always loved Liam.”
Cyrus confirmed the news with a series of posts on social media.
The couple first met on the set of the movie The Last Song in 2009. They got engaged in 2012 but broke up a year later. Cyrus told Billboard about the breakup, “(I) needed to change so much. And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard. Suddenly you’re like, ‘I don’t recognize you anymore.’ We had to refall for each other.”
Cyrus, 26, and Hemsworth, 28, were spotted together in 2015 and got engaged once again. In 2016, during an interview on The Ellen Show, Miley confirmed that the couple was intending to get married again.
Cyrus and Mark Ronson also recently released a version of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s The War Is Over, which they produced with the couple’s son Sean Ono Lennon.
