Mia Khalifa is engaged to Robert Sandberg after a year of dating, and the sportscaster could not be happier about this development.
Sandberg revealed the happy news on Instagram, writing, “We went to Chicago this weekend and had a wonderful dinner at Smyth. I proposed to [Mia Khalifa] and she said YES! The ring was hidden in a bowl of dried ingredients and came out as a “new serving”. Mia was too curious and too eager to taste so she started to eat the inedible ingredients. I told her not to do it and then I put the ring on the finger. I love you so much.”
Khalifa wrote on her own social media, “Thank you a million times over for the entire team at @smythchicago for helping @robertsandberg propose. This trip and dinner was supposed to celebrate him getting his visa! Robert has planted the seed so deep in my mind for so long that he hates restaurant proposals so I never, EVER, saw this coming. I love y’all so much! Thank you!”
She also revealed on her social media that the ring that he proposed with was what she had tried on from Hartmann’s Diamond Jewelry the first time she ever went to Stockholm to meet Sandberg for the first time. He remembered the design and had them custom-make the ring and deliver it to him in America, where he has now moved.
Recently, Khalifa wrote on Instagram about moving from her home in Austin to Los Angeles with Sandberg. She said, “I can’t believe how fast this last year has gone by and how much has changed, but I never in my life thought I’d say I’m excited to move to LA. Probably because I’m just excited to start building a life and home with this treasure of a man, and wherein the world I do it doesn’t matter (even if it’s LA), as long as I have him, and his Swedish pancakes on Sunday mornings.”
She also recently paid homage to their first year anniversary, tracing their relationship by writing, “February 21st, 2018, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw the most heartwarming video posted by @michelinguide of the first ever Swedish restaurant to earn 3 stars celebrating their achievement. That video led me to @restaurantfrantzen’s page, where past the mesmerizing food and sexy open kitchen, was a goodbye photo of a sweet looking (seemingly tattoo-less) chef who was being wished well on his journey from Frantzén in Stockholm, to his new job in Copenhagen.”
She added, “I must’ve stared at this photo for 5 minutes before I realized he was tagged and I could stalk him! So I went to his page and dove through about 57 weeks worth of the most inspired and delicious looking food I’ve ever seen. As well as uncovering his extensive tattoo collection, and other sweet insights into who he is and what he likes to do (drink a fuck ton of milk). I followed him.”
She also added, “A couple hours later, I got a DM notification and immediately got nervous. HE MADE ME NERVOUS!! A couple days later, we were tired of the constant texting and snapchatting, so we decided to FaceTime. A couple months later, we were FaceTiming every night for minimum 1-2 hours after he got off work at 1 AM Copenhagen time. A couple more months later, I was on a flight to Copenhagen not knowing what would happen. A couple more months and countless meals later, and I forgot what life was like before him.”
She concluded, “His smile brightens a whole room, his voice makes my worst days (caps lost a few playoffs games while we were in Copenhagen) seem surmountable, and knowing he will be by my side for the rest of my life gives me strength I didn’t know I had. He makes me a better person, he makes me happier. He makes me believe I can accomplish anything, and he makes me Swedish pancakes at 1 AM. One year later, and we haven’t even gotten started!!!! My best friend, my whole world, my future husband!! I love you so much, @robertsandberg!”
Congratulations to the happy couple!
