Margot Robbie has no time for the sexist insistence on pregnancy rumors and questions that have surrounded her since she got married.
The 28-year-old actress who is starring in the upcoming Mary Queen of Scots is currently touring for the movie. She is playing the role of Queen Elizabeth II.
Most reporters have used the fact that the Queen did not have kids to ask Robbie when she plans to start a family. Robbie recently got married so this question is assumed to be well timed.
Robbie however, does not have the patience for this question which she feels would not be incessantly asked of a male actor.
While speaking to The Radio Times, the actress said, “It made me really angry. How dare some old guy dictate what I can and can’t do when it comes to motherhood or my own body?”
She added, “Unfortunately, it’s a conversation we’re still having.” Additionally, the actress said that it was not just this role that was increasing the prevalence of this question, but a general Hollywood culture making itself known.
She added, “I got married, and the first question in almost every interview is ‘Babies?’ When are you having one?'” Robbie married Tom Ackerley in 2016.
Robbie concluded, “I’m so angry that there’s this social contract. You’re married, now have a baby. Don’t presume. I’ll do what I’m going to do.”
Actresses in Hollywood often speak up against the baby pressures that start right after marriage. They say it is unfair because of the way the question is posed to women in particular, and because of the invasive nature of speculation that starts in something that is not the public’s business.
Saoirse Ronan is starring as Queen Mary opposite Robbie’s character in Mary Queen of Scots.
