Mac Miller’s mother Karen Meyers shared a photo remembering her 26 year old son who passed away after a drug overdose on Friday.
In the picture, Karen is posing with Miller, whose real name is Malcolm McCormick. The two are posing together at a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game. She captioned the photo with a broken heart, paying tribute to the passing of her son.
Miller’s family released an official statement to E! after his passing, saying:
“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”
It is suspected that Miller passed away because of a drug overdose, but no official cause of death has yet been announced. The young rapper was pronounced dead on the spot when authorities reached his San Fernadino home.
Karen’s social media is generally a collection of proud testimonials for her sons achievements in the music industry. On August 5, she announced Miller’s new album Swimming by posting a picture of a billboard. She wrote, “Couldn’t be prouder of this young man.”
She also posted a photo as a tribute of his 26th birthday, writing, “Happiest Birthday my youngest. I’ve always loved this photo .. your smile and love spreads from the inside out…That moment and this moment ..so proud of your great glorious heart.”
Since Miller’s death, many celebrities including ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande, have taken to social media to post tributes for him.
