Mac Miller’s fans gathered at Frick Park’s Blue Slide playground in his hometown of Pittsburgh to pay their respects for the deceased rapper.
26 year old Miller was found dead in his home. Although the cause of his death is thought to be an overdose, an official cause has not yet been confirmed. Since his death, thousands of admirers of the young musician have taken to social media
Four days after the news was released, fans gathered to mourn the rapper at his childhood playground, the name of which inspired the name of his first album. Local news reported that thousands attended the public vigil hosted by Nightfall Records.
The record label wrote on Facebook:
“We would like to bring the city together in full force for this legendary icon. Mac deserves to be sent off with an evening of celebrating his life, discussing his struggles, and remembering his stories; most importantly for his iconic work that brought joy into the lives of everybody who listened. We are welcoming all artists to come and paint, create, draw, live tribute art for this event.”
Fans painted the slide with a fresh coat of blue, and decorated the park with candles, flowers, murals and gear from Miller’s favorite NFL team, the Pittsburgh’s Steelers.
Miller’s family released a statement after his passing, saying, “Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”
They have not yet announced plans for a funeral as of yet.
