Mac Miller’s family wants Cardi B to win the Grammy if he does not win it himself. Miller was posthumously nominated for the award.
It was revealed that Miller was up for a Grammy for Best Rap Album back in December. The rapper passed away of a drug overdose himself in September of last year at the age of 26, and was posthumously nominated.
His album Swimming was released a month before he passed away. Swimming is the fifth album from the rapper. It received glowing reviews from critics. His family has now revealed that they hope he wins, but that Cardi B takes the award if not him.
A source told US Weekly, “Malcolm’s family was so moved when his nomination was announced. They are really hopeful that the Recording Academy will honor what they believe to be the most important and impactful rap album of the year.”
The source added that Mac’s parents Karen Meyers and Mark McCormick have a second artist that they are supporting, saying, “It will be a bittersweet moment for them if Malcolm wins. And if he doesn’t, they’re rooting for Cardi B.”
Cardi is nominated for her first album, Invasion of Privacy, which was acclaimed by critics after its release and named the best album of 2018.
A source told US at the time of Mac’s 27th birthday on January 19, “Malcolm’s family wishes that he could be at home celebrating his birthday with them and being the center of attention like he always was, but they know he is still there in spirit with his big ol’ smile.”
Mac’s family will attend the 61st Grammy Awards on February 10.
