Lena Dunham did not hold back when it came to Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriends and casually revealed her least favorite in front of Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Taylor Swift has been completely silent about her current romance with Joe Alwyn, which has lasted almost two years. Before this however, the singer was relatively public about her past relationships including those with Jake Gyllenhaal, Calvin Harris, Tom Hiddleston, Joe Jonas, Connor Kennedy, Taylor Lautner, John Mayer and Harry Styles.
During an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What happens Live alongside Gyllenhaal’s sister Maggie, Dunham was asked about Taylor Swift’s worst ex.
The question was posed during a round of Plead the Fifth by Dunham’s Girls co-star Andrew Rannells.
Given Maggie’s presence on the couch, Cohen warned Dunham, “Choose your gentleman carefully.” Swift and Jake were together for just three months in 2010, but most of Swift’s album Red is reportedly based off of experiences from that relationship.
Dunham answered the question by saying, “I want to do right by her on this question—and I’m also proud, because I haven’t pled the fifth on any of these and I think that makes me some kind of champion! My least favorite was ‘Calvin Harris,’ because I felt he was petty in the public and who needs to do that?”
Dunham also talked about Swift’s recent political openness, saying:
“That was really amazing. I mean, I’m always proud of Taylor. Not only is she an amazing friend to me on a personal level, but she’s an amazing friend to lots of people in the world. She felt it was time for her to talk about politics—and I never judged her for considering that a private domain—but I think she chose a really, really powerful time to speak out,” the producer of HBO’s Camping said. “I’m so moved and honored to be her friend.”
Girls aired from 2012 to 2017.
