The Game of Thrones co-stars, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie, are tying the knot today in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
In 2012, the stars met on the set of the fantasy television show and played the famous on-screen lovers, Jon Snow and Ygritte. In 2017, the couple announced their engagement. And now, the two are finally getting married.
According to DailyMail, the wedding will take place at Leslie family’s Wardhill Castle in north east Scotland. The wedding vows will take place in the castle’s drawing room. However, since it can only fit 80 guests, the reception that follows will take place in a large erected marquee located on the castle grounds.
The Leslie family has had the castle for around 900 years. The redhead spent her whole childhood in the castle, after which she moved to London to pursue her acting career.
Game of Thrones cast members, including Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) arrived in Aberdeen, Scotland on Friday.
In an interview with L’Uomo Vogue, Kit explained how the beautiful country of Iceland made him fall in love with his co-star, he said, “The three weeks in Iceland when we were shooting the second season. Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love [with Rose Leslie].
He further added, “If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love…”
Unfortunately, Rose left Game of Thrones in 2014. On the other hand, Kit grew to become one of the shows most loved characters.
In an interview with TV Week, Rose reported how Kit popped the big question. Since Iceland held special significance for the couple, the The Last Witch Hunter star initially assumed that he would propose to her there. But, to her surprise, Kit popped the question before their trip to Iceland.
She said, “I was blissfully surprised when he dropped to a knee and asked me to marry him.”
“We happened to be in the English countryside, which is kind of an area that I don’t know that well. It was at night time under a beautiful blanket of stars. The man did well. It was highly romantic,” she added.
