Sex and the City star, Kim Cattrall, slammed Sarah Jessica Parker for trying to reach out to her after the death of her brother. She said, “I don’t need your love and support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker.”
Samantha Jones and Carrie Bradshaw are characters from the popular series, Sex and the City played by Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker. While the two characters on the show displayed an unbroken and powerful bond of sisterhood and friendship, in reality, the relationship dynamics are quite the opposite.
Kim Cattrall recently lost her brother, Chris Cattrall, who was 55 years old. His body was found on a farm in Canada.
People reached out to her to pay condolences for such a tremendous loss and while she was humbled by the love and kind words sent her way, she was particularly upset about Sarah Jessica Parker reaching out to her.
Sarah Jessica Parker wrote, “Dearest Kim, my love, and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx.”
Kim Cattrall made it a point to let her former colleague know that her love was not welcome. She posted a picture which stated, “I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker.”
She further stated in the caption, “My mom asked me today ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’ Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now.”
She went on to explicitly tell Sarah that regardless of their history as co-workers, they are not friends.
She said, “Let me make this VERY clear, (If I haven’t already). You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”
She also attached a link in her bio to an article which was titled, “Inside the mean girls culture that destroyed sex and the city.”
Nevertheless, Kim Cattrall took to her social media and thanked all her fans, friends and other colleagues for the support and love extended her way through this tragic time. She said, “I would like to thank my fans, friends, and my #SexandtheCity colleagues for the outpouring of support for myself and family over the past 72 hours.”
Kim announced the death of her brother on 5th February via Instagram.
She posted a picture with him and said, “It is with great sadness that myself and my family announce the unexpected passing of our son and brother, Chris Cattrall. At this time we ask for privacy but we want to thank you all on social media for your outpouring of love and support in this trying time.”
Twitter is also debating the issue and trying to decide who is right and wrong in this situation. There are some who are on Sarah Jessica Parker’s side while others are siding with Kim Cattrall.
One fan supported Kim and said, “She didn’t ‘lose’- she told it like it was. I work in that kind of culture & experience exactly what she did. Awful to have an entire dept of colleagues dis you privately while pretending they <3 you publicly. Good for her to speak up!”
While another took Sarah’s side and said, “I too tragically lost my brother, but never in my worst stages of grief would I ever speak to anyone like KC did especially when offering condolences. That’s just some messed up jealousy, KC can’t move on, seems disturbed. Death humbles most & teaches us how to live a better life.”
A few fans were plain disappointed that the two actresses who were so close on-screen shared a bitter relationship in reality.
One fan said, “So sad and disappointing to know the relationship between these two was a true farce…”
