Despite being engaged to the brother of one of President Donald Trump’s most trusted advisors, Karlie Kloss manages to retain liberal political views.
Kloss and her fiance Josh Kushner have been together for a few years, and got engaged earlier this year. Kushner is the brother of Jared Kushner, who is the husband of Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump.
Jared is a senior advisor to the President, a fact which created criticism for Kloss when she got engaged to Josh. Fans thought this would make her give up her liberal values to side with Trump’s extremely narrow views.
The supermodel is insistent on her liberal leanings though. She openly threw her support behind Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections, and posted photos from the March for Our Lives in Washington DC. She has also called Gloria Steinem “one of my personal heroes” on social media.
Despite this seeming ideological difference, Kloss chooses to be with Josh. When announcing her engagement to him on social media, Kloss wrote, “I love you more than I have words to express. Josh, you’re my best friend and my soulmate. I can’t wait for forever together. Yes a million times over.”
She told Vogue, “I’ve chosen to be with the man I love despite the complications.” She added that the couple “have each other’s backs” and that “Josh and I share a lot of the same liberal values that guide our lives and the things we stand for.”
Kloss also talked about her relationship with the young entrepreneur, saying, “Josh knows that I’m just a nerdy, curious human being. I think that’s why he loves me.” She added, “The truth is, I don’t know where I’ll be a decade from now. Nothing about the last ten years has gone exactly to plan, which is part of the beauty of life.”
The couple have not yet announced any additional details for their big day.
