Kanye West stepped in for Ariana Grande after she canceled her musical appearance on the SNL’s season 44 premiere for ’emotional reasons’.
The producer of the show, Lorne Michaels, confirmed on the Origins podcast that Grande would not be appearing on the show. He said, “We had Ariana drop out for emotional reasons two days ago. He’ll be there. The reach of the show, and the number of people that will step forward, is just somehow now, I think, probably at its peak.”
He also revealed that West will be stepping up to replace the singer.
Grande has had a tough month with the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, who passed away at the start of September from an apparent drug overdose. Grande took a few weeks to recover from the untimely death of the 26 year old.
She also opted out from attended the 2018 Emmy’s, which she was scheduled to appear at with boyfriend Pete Davidson.
On Thursday, the singer tweeted, “Can I pls have one okay day. Just one. Pls” adding, “I’m so tired pls.” After fans expressed concern and confusion at the emotional tweets, she later tweeted out, “ur angels in my life. It’s just been a tough month. I’m trying to get my work done and get back to normal and it’s hard and I’m human and tired. Sorry I let u in or worried u. I shouldn’t have tweeted. I kno better.”
Adam Driver will be hosting the show and West will be appearing as the musical guest for the SNL premiere instead.
