John Cena and Nikki Bella both take to social media to post cryptic messages on May 5, the day they would have gotten married

John Cena and Nikki Bella surprised fans when they announced their breakup only weeks before the big day. They were supposed to get married on May 5, but it never happened. However, both posted on their social media on the special date, confusing their fans.

On April 16, the two announced their separation weeks before their wedding date. In a joint statement released on Nikki’s Instagram, the former couple said, “After much contemplation and 6 years of being together Nikki Bella and John Cena announced their decision to separate as a couple. While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.”

John subtly addressed the breakup by posting a quote from Walt Whitman on his Instagram. It said, “We were together. I forget the rest.”

He also posted a picture which said “Worst Day Ever!” on April 16.

The two have since been silent on the split, despite fans pouring in with the opinions and consolations on their social media. However, both posted on May 5, their intended wedding date, with cryptic messages that made fans line up to write consolation message and made others believe they might be getting back together.

John also took to Twitter to express his thoughts and fans had a lot to say about his tweet.

Nikki posted a picture on Instagram which said, “Chin Up Princess or The Crown Slips.” 

A number of fans commented underneath her post.

One wrote, “You deserve a better prince!! Keep your chin up….he’s out there!! And just like you he will want kids.”

Another wrote expressively, “YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE GOING TO DO JUST FINE…MOVE ON…LEARN FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE.”

Another fan added, “Be Strong!!! Your strength only grows with every breathe you take. And your strength is one thing that will never be deflated. So chin up princes, this too shall pass!!”

Some fans even speculated if the couple were getting back together, saying they had seen Nikki and John eating together in a restaurant in San Diego.

Yet others wrote doubtful messages in the comments, speculating about the possibility of the entire thing being a publicity stunt.

One follower wrote, “I’ve read that this could be a possible stunt for the new upcoming season of total bellas, to get more ratings for the show because last season the ratings was bad… I mean I would lose respect for them if this is just a publicly stunt. I’m already done watching total bellas anymore.”

John also recently admitted to E! that he missed Nikki. He said, “Nicole knows I love her and I miss her, but that is what it is. And I’m still here, still going — and I choose to go. When you love somebody, it stings. That’s why musicians write about it. That’s why poets write about it.”
