Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos, the richest couple in the world are divorcing after 25 years of marriage, and he is going to be moving on with Lauren Sanchez.
The couple said in a statement, “We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.”
The statement continued, “We feel incredible lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for everyone one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.”
“We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursing ventures and adventures,” they said.
“Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends,” they concluded. The couple have four children together: three sons and an adopted daughter.
Bezos has a net worth of over $136 billion dollars, and Amazon is at the epicenter of his wealth. According to what Forbes’ Luisa Kroll told E!, if MacKenzie gets even half of the shares in Amazon, “she would be the 5th richest person in the world. She would by far be the richest woman in the world.”
Kroll added, “My assumption, especially since they live in Washington state where property is split between husband and wife, my assumption is that she is going to get a significant amount of shares.”
She also said that she thinks the shares will be in MacKenzie’s name but that Jeff will “probably still be voting with them.”
Hours after this news of the divorce broke, it was revealed that Jeff has been seeing Good Day L.A. host Lauren Sanchez. The two were acquainted through her husband, Patrick Whitesell, who is the co-CEO of Hollywood company WME, according to Page Six. Whitesell represents Matt Damon, Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lauren and Patrick frequently visited the Bezos’ home in Seattle. Page Six reported that the couple separated in the fall themselves, after marrying in 2005 and having two children together. Sanchez also has a son from her first husband, Tony Gonzalez.
Sanchez has her own company called Black Ops Aviation, which is an aerial filming company. She has worked on films like Dunkirk and Miss Bala, as well as for videos for Blue Origin, which is Bezos’ aerospace company.
Neither Jeff nor Lauren have spoken out about their alleged affair.
