Halsey releases a tell-all music video with a G-Eazy lookalike a week after the on-again off-again relationship comes to its final end.
The video documents a tumultuous relationship that includes alcohol, drugs, throwing up, and multiple wounds after partying gone wrong.
Halsey talked about the song with Zane Lowe, saying, “I think that’s what I’m kind of getting at is that it’s like it’s not protected by some character or some subplot.”
She added, “It’s like this is really me talking about my life. It kind of gave me like an existential crisis as an artist a little bit, because I’ve prided myself on being an artist who’s authentic and writes about her life and all that stuff. And then when I made this and I felt just how bad it hurt.”
She also revealed on Instagram, “The ‘Without Me’ video is out now! This video was made with my friend Colin Tilley and it was a really amazing and emotional process. The story is a relationship of a combination of relationships I’ve been in, or watched the people I love go through.”
She added, “As always, art is meant to be left to interpretation. If you see your story in this, I hope you hear me speaking to you loud and clear. All my love.”
Halsey and G-Eazy’s break up was hinted at when the rapper recently performed at the Karma International Party in Los Angeles. The Halloween themed Kandy Halloween Party even boasted a “Morning Recovery” to prevent hangovers.
A source told Journal Post that G-Eazy was flirting with several girls during the event, making no effort to hide his interactions. He was also telling other party-goers that he was single.
At the time, Halsey was in Tokyo, promoting her new music. Shortly after this news leaked, the two stopped following each other on Instagram as well.
The couple first broke up in July 2018 after a year of dating. Halsey wrote on Instagram, “G-Eazy and I are taking some apart. I’m eager to continue the upcoming passage of time dedicating myself to my art and career, and the duration of my tour. I wish him the best.”
She also deleted all the pictures of the rapper on her account at the time. G-Eazy neither confirmed nor commented on Halsey’s statements. He was in Paris at the time.
Right before their break up, Halsey was seen hanging out with rapper Machine Gun Kelly, which incited a feud between G-Eazy and MGK.
During a freestyle session on Hot 97, Machine Gun Kelly dissed G-Eazy saying, “Let’s just keep it G. Only Eazy I f**k with is E / I seen he dyed his hair and got a hanging earring / I f**ked his girl now he look like me, this s**t is overbearing.”
In response, G Eazy dropped a new track called Bad Boy, in which he said, “MGK please stop trolling me / get over me / You wanna be me, you’re mad that you’re not as big as me; I’m everywhere, I’m your nightmare, you can’t get rid of me.”
Referencing the couple’s song, G-Eazy added, “Call a Uber, turn on the radio, imagine hearing me / ‘Him & I’s on, mad you’re listening to Halsey sing to me” and “Disrespect her again, I’ll smack you, I’m not a boy.”
Halsey and G-Eazy were then were rumored to have reunited when they were seen holding hands at Post Malone’s 2018 MTV VMA’s party, which was confirmed after Halsey made an appearance at G-Eazy’s concert at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.
G-Eazy announced to the crowd, “Make some noise for the most beautiful woman on this planet right now. Make some motherf***ing noise for the queen, Halsey.”
The duo performed their song Him & I and ended the show by kissing each other, driving fans completely wild.
After they reunited, G-Eazy surprised Halsey for her 24th birthday on September 29 by taking her to Italy.
He also gave her a tribute on Instagram, writing, “Happy birthday to this one. I love you so so so much and I always will. I myself, along with millions and millions of other people appreciate you more than you’ll ever know.”
He added, “You’re the brightest star in the sky. So grateful to get to travel thru life with you, so happy to call you my queen. Happy birthday baby.”
Halsey also posted a picture of the rapper at the Osteria Francescana restaurant in Modena, Italy, captioning it, “It’s my birthday”.
Halsey and G-Eazy have not yet directly commented on their split.
