Last week, Demi Lovato was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from her Hollywood Hills home after she suffered a heroin overdose. The singer has now agreed to go to rehab.
After she is released from the hospital, Demi plans to head to a drug rehabilitation center. According to People, she will leave the hospital this weekend and will gos traight to an in-patient rehab facility. The source also confirmed that this is Demi’s personal choice, and not something that has been forced on her. They said, “It’s her choice to go to rehab. This is not anything that can be forced.”
“She understands the severity of her overdose and the recovery has been very challenging for her,” the source continued. “She wants to be sober. She wants to get help. She understands that it will take a lot of work and commitment to stay healthy, but this is what she wants.”
Another insider revealed to People that her family had been pushing her to get treatment all along, and that she has finally agreed to it of her own accord. The source said, “Her family has been pushing for her to get treatment in a center. The goal has been to get her physically healthy and now that Demi is stable they’re focusing on getting her clean again. It won’t be easy but Demi agreeing to rehab is a huge step for her recovery.”
Meanwhile, an insider told E! that Demi wants to make a statement in front of her fans and be a good example to them; she also wants to show them that is strong and can recover from his mishap.
The 25-year-old has struggled with substance abuse in the past. In 2011, she went to rehab to seek further treatment for bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm and addiction. She relapsed after leaving the facility, and then had to go to a sober living facility for a year.
She recently revealed her relapse in her new song, Sober. Demi sang:
“Mama, I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore
And daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor.
And I’m sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again
I wanna be a role model, but I’m only human.”
She then heartbreakingly sings:
“I’m sorry that I’m here again
I promise I’ll get help
It wasn’t my intention
I’m sorry to myself.”
Her friends and family, including Selena Gomez, are devastated. Many have been taking to social media to wish her a quick recovery.
Demi has not yet spoken to fans about her hospitalization or rehabilitation.
