Britney Spears checked into a mental health facility for a little bit of “me time” right after her father fell seriously ill.
Spears took a break from performances and touring in January after revealing that her father had come close to death and was seriously ill. She wrote, “I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make.”
She continued, “A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always.”
Earlier this week, she wrote on Instagram that, “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time’”. She wrote this alongside a picture of a quote reading, “Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit”. TMZ reported the singer has checked herself into a medical facility.
A source close to Spears revealed to Reuters that she is not doing well with her father’s illness, saying, “They are very close. She just wants to take time to focus on herself.” Her father stuck close to Spears during her spiral in 2007 and is the court-approved conservator of her business affairs.
Spears’ canceled performances have not yet been rescheduled.
