Ben Affleck is set to remain in the Malibu treatment centre to deal with his ‘addiction struggles’ for the next 30 days at least.
A source told E! News, “Ben is still in rehab and has not left. He’s doing okay. He seems serious about living in for at least 30 days.”
Jennifer Garner was seen dropping off her ex-husband at rehab on Wednesday last week, and sources close to Affleck suggest that he’s handling the transition well.
This marks the third time Affleck is seeking treatment for his addiction struggles, and it seems like the third time could really be the charm for the Justice League star.
Post his drop-off to rehab last week, Garner and Affleck have also reached a divorce settlement two days ago. The duo will, however, need to wait for Affleck to complete his treatment before they can move forward with the court proceedings.
“The divorce is wrapped up but has not been signed off on. They are waiting for Ben to get out to do that,” a source close to the couple said. “They both want to move on and end the financial negotiations and the custody discussions.”
Affleck, 46, does not only have to deal with his official separation with Garner, but also his split with Lindsay Shookus. The SNL producer is reported to have broken up with him a while prior to his visit to the rehab so he could deal with his ‘addiction struggles’ and so ‘he could hit rock bottom’.
In the midst of this split-up, the Gone Girl star was seen getting close to model Shauna Sexton.
“Ben was doing well for the last few months and very committed to his sobriety. But recently he started to slip up and began drinking again. He wrapped his movie and had some downtime,” an insider told E! News.
“This week, he was heavily drinking alone at home and with the Playboy model. Jen had family in town and a lot going on but she was well aware of what was going on. She saw the photo of the alcohol being delivered to his house and knew he was home all day and that was the breaking point,” the source added.
“She arranged for him to go to rehab and staged an intervention with someone from the facility,” the source stated. “Ben was not resistant and knew he needed help. He was grateful that Jen was there for him again and did not fight it.”
Garner, who has shared a cordial relationship with Affleck post their split-up in 2015 after a decade of being married, is seen to be ‘supportive but firm’ about Ben’s struggles with addiction. The pair co-parent three children together, and Garner is ‘glad he is in a safe place, and getting the help he needs’.
