Ben Affleck has been in the rehab for a week now after his last relapse. This is Affleck’s third time in rehab. Here is everything we know about it so far.
Earlier this month, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck’s ex-wife, confronted the actor on his ‘addiction struggles’ in his house in the Pacific Palisades. She was accompanied by a bodyguard, and a staff member of the Malibu treatment centre, where Ben has been admitted. In this intervention, she put Affleck on the spot to make him seek treatment.
Garner, who later stated that Affleck was ‘not resistant and knew he needed help‘, also dropped him off to rehab on Wednesday, the 22nd of August.
“Jen was incredibly concerned because Ben was making excuses for missed plans and rarely answering his phone in the week before he entered rehab,” a source revealed.
“She knows this pattern very well and became worried.” According to the source, Jennifer eventually went to check on Ben, and the actor appeared to have been on ‘some type of bender’. According to a source close to the couple, Affleck was ‘grateful that Jen was there for him again and did not resist it.
Ben Affleck was associated with his former girlfriend Lindsay Shookus for over a year before the couple split-up. Amidst the rumors that spread regarding the breakup, the initial set of them centered around the long-distance that the couple decided was difficult to bridge.
However, the Saturday Night Live producer, Shookus, later reportedly stated that the reasons for the break up was Ben’s ‘addiction struggles’, and so he ‘could hit rock bottom.’
Prior to the break-up with Lindsay, Affleck seemed to have been keeping it together, and not over-indulging in alcohol.
“Ben was doing well for the last few months and very committed to his sobriety,” but that was before his breakup. A source shared, “He periodically drank from time to time but struggled as of late.”
However, post-break Ben was a different tale.
His drinking habits intensified, and he started consuming more alcohol than he had tolerance for. Amidst rumors related to his split-up with Lindsay Shookus, Ben was also spotted with Playboy model Shauna Sexton. As he was seen getting close to Shauna, he also seemed to be ‘heavily drinking at home’. Amidst all this, Shookus deleted her Instagram.
Ben’s ex-wife, Garner, with whom he split up in 2015, still remains on cordial and welcoming terms with the Justice League actor, as evidenced by the support she lent him through his addiction struggles.
While Ben was drowning his sorrows in liquor, Jennifer “had family in town and a lot going on but she was well aware of what was going on. She saw the photo of the alcohol being delivered to his house and knew he was home all day and that was the breaking point,” a source revealed.
Garner and Affleck co-parent three children together; Violet, Serafina, and Samuel. Garner felt that Affleck was ‘going through a really rough time’ and decided to drive him to the Malibu treatment center so he could seek professional help.
Another source revealed, “It’s extremely sad and disappointing that this has happened again, but she will continue to be there for him and not turn her back. She feels like she can’t do that to her kids and that she wants him to be in their lives.”
While it has only been a week since the Gone Girl star was admitted into rehab, an insider from the treatment center revealed, “He seems serious about living in for at least 30 days.”
Jennifer Garner is reportedly said to have told their kids that their father is ‘sick and needs help from a doctor’, because she does not want to keep it hidden from them.
Apart from dealing with issues related to co-parenting, which the couple has done somewhat amicably in the past, the pair also has to deal with the impending court proceedings for their divorce after Ben finishes his treatment.
The duo split up in 2015, after being married for a decade, and have finally reached a divorce settlement now, after filing for it in 2017. The divorce was threatened to be dismissed by higher authorities due to lack of paperwork and declaration forms that were left unsigned. Ben and Jen will move forward with the court proceedings once Ben finishes treatment, as stated by an insider.
“The divorce is wrapped up but has not been signed off on. They are waiting for Ben to get out to do that,” the insider revealed. “They both want to move on and end the financial negotiations and the custody discussions.”
