Ariana Grande has finally broken her silence on the death of her ex, rapper Mac Miller, for the first time since he passed away on Friday, September 7.
The 26-year-old rapper was found dead in his home from an overdose on Friday. For over a week, Ariana had chosen complete silence on the issue, which had also led to severe bullying by many blaming her for Mac’s death.
Ariana has finally shared her thoughts on Mac’s death with a heartfelt message on Instagram. The singer wrote:
“I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and i always will. I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. I really can’t wrap my head around it. We talked about this. So many times. I’m so mad, I’m so sad I don’t know what to do. You were my dearest friend. For so long. Above anything else. I’m so sorry I couldn’t fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. I hope you’re okay now. Rest.
The message was shared alongside an adorable video of the two. Ariana can be seen secretly recording her then boyfriend Mac. As soon as he notices the camera, the two burst out into giggles.
The comments for the post are turned off.

Ariana’s only response to the death before this was a photo she posted of Mac, as she stood up over him and he looked up at the camera. Grande did not write a caption, and turned the comments off on her post. This can be explained by the hateful comments she has been getting on previous posts. In wake of the bullying, her fiance Pete Davidson has also cleared his Instagram of all photos.
Mac, 26, was found dead in his San Fernando Valley home around noon, and was pronounced dead on the spot, as detailed by TMZ. It was also said that a friend of the late Miller called 911, which prompted authorities to arrive at the scene.
This was not Mac Miller’s first stint with drugs. He has battled addiction before, something that seemed to have come up again since his break up with Ariana Grande a few months ago.
In May, Mac was also arrested for drunk driving. At the time, he was involved in DUI as well as a hit-and-run. Authorities intercepted him at his San Fernando Valley home later that day and arrested him, as reported by PEOPLE. This was one week after the rapper broke up with longtime girlfriend Ariana.
Miller later said about his arrest, “I made a stupid mistake. I’m a human being.”
While Mac said he was happy about Ariana’s engagement to Pete Davidson, fans were worried about him.
The rapper opened up while talking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music. He said:
“Life is stressful. You know what I mean so of course there were stressful times. It’s not that unique. You know like I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress, and everything else. And then it came to an end and we both moved on. And it’s that simple you know. And like I haven’t been on the internet. So you know people have assumed that I’m you know like, ‘Are you OK. Is everything OK?‘”
Lowe also asked Miller why he stopped going online and deleted his social media. Miller said it was not to outrun news about his ex-girlfriend, but to focus on his upcoming music. He said, “Because I was about to drop the album. And also like I don’t know it just all seemed kind of like unimportant you know like like the need to show people I was OK. Like what is that? Where does that come from? Why? Why do we have this need to use social media and the internet?”
Miller also made sure to emphasize that despite contradictory rumors, him and Grande have nothing but positive vibes for each other, saying “I am happy for her and moving forward with her life just as I’m sure she is with me.“
