A Twitter user posted a tweet comparing Anne Hathaway’s husband, Adam Shulman, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the greatest English writer, William Shakespeare. The user wrote, “Anne Hathaway is being talked about for her beauty but what about the fact that her husband looks very similar to William Shakespeare and William Shakespeare’s wife’s name was literally ANNE HATHAWAY…”

The reaction stirred by the tweet is tantamount to lighting a fire in a forest, and has the readers making connections and speculations about Anne’s mysterious link to Shakespeare. From reincarnation to time travel, fans-cum-conspiracy-theorists have discussed it all and some have formed rather strong beliefs!

Fans were quick to dig up more information to extend the theory further, all while Anne herself probably remains oblivious to this insanely enticing conspiracy. It came to the notice of Anne’s fans that the late American poet Shakespeare was in fact married to a woman named… Anne Hathaway. This coincidence lent some credibility to the theory conjured up by the Twitter genius, and had the viewers and readers in a fit of awe and amusement; this connection is not just limited to the resemblance between Shakespeare and Shulmon, but extends further to the supposed reason behind Anne’s name

An article in The Telegraph in 2008 stated that Anne’s name was ‘purposeful’, but this has not yet been confirmed or denied by Anne herself. An opportunity presented itself to the Twitter geniuses, and they were not reluctant to expand it, and add more nuggets of connections between Anne and Shakespeare.

This eerie connection has taken quite a few turns, from insinuating that Anne and Adam are time travelers, to the reappearance of Shakespeare and his wife in modern world, and has also subsumed the actual events of Anne’s love life, which can be considered a fairy-tale in disguise.

Anne met her husband at the Palm Springs Film Festival in 2008 through a mutual friend, and their love blossomed and flourished in the most unpredicted manner, as she was taken to him instantly.

She talked about the way she felt for Adam while talking to Harper Bazaar, and disclosed details which can melt any heart:

“I think he thought I was a little nuts, which I am a bit, but I’m also nice… I was just very honest with him. I knew from the second I met him that he was the love of my life. I also knew that I couldn’t have met him at a worse time… I took my trust out for a ridiculous joyride with him.”

While fans have taken it upon themselves to unearth and establish cosmic or actual connections between the poet and the actress, Anne is living her fairytale life, and we thank her for making us believe in magic, however momentarily. We wish her real-life Romeo and Juliet love story has a happier ending. Because in the words of Shakespeare, “Where there is a will, there Hath-a-way!”
