Amy Schumer is pregnant eight months after her marriage to Chris Fischer, and announced the news in the most Schumer way possible.
Schumer posted a picture of herself and Chris with their heads superimposed on an image of pregnant Meghan Markle cradling her stomach and her husband, Prince Harry.
She then wrote alongside, “About to announce some exciting news on @jessicayellin insta page. Please follow her for up to the minute #newsnotnoise she breaks down what’s really going on. She agreed to post a lil noise today for me! Follow her and VOTE!!”
On Jessica Yellin’s Instagram, Schumers news was part of a long list of candidate recommendations. The bottom of the list cleverly read, “I’m pregnant—Amy Schumer”.
Yellin captioned the photo, “@amyschumer Getting Out the Vote, and Something Else.” The pregnancy announcement aimed to raise political awareness on the back of Schumer’s impending motherhood.
In a statement to The Times, Schumer jokingly said, “Chris and I are thrilled and almost positive he’s the father. I look forward to competing with Markle every step of the way.”
Social media had a variety of reactions to Schumer’s pregnancy, with some congratulating the comedian and others being hesitant about additional Schumer’s in the world.
Kate Hudson, who recently gave birth to a baby girl herself, said, “I’m so excited for you guys!!!! Congrats.”
Zoe Saldana laughingly said, “Congratulations lady! We are so happy for you!”
Jessica Seinfeld wrote, “Grandma’s ready,” referring to herself.
Lena Dunham said, “We are so excited every person cannot wait!!!”
A follower of Schumer’s commented, “You got me… now I’m following her, know you’re pregnant, AND know what’s really going on in the voting world. Thanks.”
Another one let Schumer know, “BELIEVE YOU ME you are about to get limitless amount of comedy material from pregnancy and then being a parent. It’s like one big comic show for the rest of your life.”
“The idea that someone like Amy Schumer got pregnant is more funny that any joke she’s ever told in her life,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another one posted a meme which said, “This is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them.”
Yet another user excitedly wrote, “AMY SCHUMER BEING PREGNANT IS THE BEST THING THATS HAPPENED TO ME THIS YEAR!!!!!”
One user concisely summed up Schumer’s aims, writing, “Amy Schumer is pregnant and wants you to vote on November 6.”
This is the couple’s first child. They shocked the world 8 months ago by getting married in a surprise ceremony in Malibu.
The 37 year old comedian confirmed her marriage to Fischer with a post on Instagram captioned, “yup”.
The couple went public with their romance at Ellen Degeneres’ birthday party, from which they posted pictures of themselves kissing in the photo booth.
After getting married, Schumer told Oprah, “I’d never wanted to be married. I thought the concept was weird. Why would you involve the government in love? But then I met this man and wanted to sign all available paperwork to commit to him.”
Schumer is known for her strong political opinions. The comedian was arrested a few weeks ago along with Emily Ratajkowoski.
The protesters were demonstrating against then Supreme Court nominee and now judge Brett Kavanaugh as an Associate Supreme Court Justice after three women accused him of sexual misconduct. The actress and supermodel were detained as hundreds of protesters gathered in front of USA’s highest court in Washington.
The star also recently spoke out against digital body manipulations. The I Feel Pretty star took to Instagram to respond to a photo of her which had been uploaded by a social media user.
The user had Photoshopped a bikini photo of Amy Schumer, making her look thinner than she is.
Schumer wrote, “I disagree. I like how I really look. That’s my body. I love my body for being strong and healthy and sexy. I look liked I’d give a good hug or have a drink with you.”
Schumer added, “The other picture looks nice but it’s not me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well. See, we’re both right.”
The user was actually pushed by Schumer’s comment to take down the post. “I’m sorry Amy! It was unfair to do that to you,” the Instagram user wrote.
“I didn’t think much about it when I first posted the pic. I’ve seen a lot of people photoshopping celebrities so I didn’t think mine would even be a blimp. I spent like 30 min making the photo and I should have never posted it! I’m glad people called out this post!”she wrote back.
The account also said, “Actually nothing should be photoshopped because real is beautiful, I’ve learned that. Thank you to everyone who called me out on my bulls—! Because of all of you a [sic] idiotic person like me can become a better person.”
Amy Schumer has not yet commented on the reactions to her pregnancy announcement.
