Blake Lively looked majestic at the Met Gala 2018, stunning the red carpet in her ruby and gold Atelier Versace gown, which took over 600 hours to stitch. The theme for this year’s Gala, held in New York City on Monday evening was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’.
The Gossip Girl star pulled out all the stops for the appearance, showing off her curvy figure in the custom made Versace ensemble. Lively’s gilded bodice encrusted with rubies and emeralds fit her body like a glove and accentuated her cleavage. The crimson skirt underneath had sheer panels, for the perfect peek-a-boo skin reveal. The gorgeous maroon silk-velvet on her skirt shone in the lights and the intricate gold-thread embroidery on it alone was enough to make our eyes pop. With the oversized and embroidered train, Lively made heads turn as she stood confidently and posed for the camera on the steps.
Versace posted a photo of the dramatic look on their Instagram page and captioned, “Red carpet divinity @blakelively at the 2018 #MetGala in a custom-made, deep red, #AtelierVersace silk velvet gown with a crystal encrusted bustier cascading into a dramatic full skirt with oversized embroidered train. #MetHeavenlyBodies.”
Earlier this week, Lively told Vogue that this year, the dress might just be her ‘favourite dress ever’, she also added that ‘they’ve already worked on it for 600 hours, and it’s not done’. Lively chose to style her blonde locks in an up do, and crowned her head with a gold crown-like head piece. She left her neck bare so her fabulous cleavage did all the head-turning and wore rings on every finger.
Earlier in the evening when she left her hotel, Blake was escorted by shoe-designer, Christian Louboutin. She chose not to reveal her outfit and instead donned a pale blue Versace dressing gown. Her Louboutins were the highlight of that outfit, with pearls across the feet and crimson ruffles on the ankles.
On her Instagram account, Lively chose to highlight a Met Gala look from the past in which she wore a gold Atelier Versace gown with blue feathers at the train. She paired that look with divine Ofira Jewels earrings and Louboutins. Her husband, Ryan Reynolds, was in attendance that year and rocked a Gucci suit and blue bow tie, to match the feathers on Lively’s dress.
Lively certainly takes the award for one of the best dressed at this year’s Met Gala, we can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next year.
