ABBA recently announced that they will be releasing new music for the first time in 35 years.
The Swedish pop group took on Instagram to make an official joint statement, saying they have planned to come together once again and are excited to record new music.
The statement read, “The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence.
“We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!”
Although there is no official date as to when the new music will be released, the band stated there will be two new songs for their fans. The music will sound familiar, but will be modern.
The band continued, “It resulted in two new songs and one of them ‘I Still Have Fair In You’ will be performed by our digital selves in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December.”
The Swedish quartet also joked that although they have ‘come of age’, their songs are new and ‘feels good’.
The statement was concluded with ABBA signing off with their names and today’s date. “Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn, Anni-Frid – Stockholm, Sweden, 27 April 2018.”
The band’s name, ABBA, derives from the first letter of each of their names.
The band’s manager, Görel Hanser, confirmed the ABBA reunion and described how the session in the studio felt like ‘old times’. In an interview with Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet, she said, “It didn’t feel weird that they hadn’t been in the studio together for 35 years.”
Although the band will be producing music together, Hanser stated that fans should not expect ABBA to ‘join forces’ on stage again.
ABBA were quite popular in the 70’s and 80’s. However, their success and fame came to an end after the break up of both couples in the band. Bjorn divorced Agnetha in 1980, while Benny divorced Ani-Frid in 1981.
