Legendary Fantastic Four and House of Cards actor, Reg E Cathey, has passed away aged 59, after bravely battling cancer.
Reg fell victim to lung cancer and had been struggling against the disease for a while now. He breathed his last on Friday, at his home in New York.
Reg has been in the credit lists for many television shows. He worked in extremely popular TV series, including Oz, Outcast and Grimm. However, the actor’s most notable performances came in The Wire and House of Cards.
Cathey worked in the political thriller, ‘House of Cards’, as Freddy Hayes. He was a guest actor and played the role of a barbecue pit owner. The role landed him two nominations, and he won an Emmy accolade in 2015 for ‘Outstanding Guest Actor’ in year 2015.
The actor also starred in numerous films. His most recognizable roles include that of Dr. Franklin Storm in Fantastic Four‘s latest edition in 2015.
He was also extremely popular due to his early theater performances and his dialog delivery with that baritone voice. Reg was accredited for his performances in the latter part of his career, although he had been in the industry for quite some time now.
In an interview with Detroit Free Press, he once said:
“When I was on ‘Oz’ years ago, I did an interview, and the guy said, ‘You’re one of the few actors who can make their living as an actor without being famous,'”
“We both laughed. And it’s true. There’s a small club of us, actors and actresses, because it’s really difficult just to make a living as an actor without being famous. It used to be easier when I first started, but now it’s really, really difficult.”
Hollywood is deeply saddened by the star’s demise and many paid tribute to the late actor on social media.
David Simon was the first one to break the news of his death on the internet in a tweet.
“Reg Cathey, 1958-2018. Not only a fine, masterful actor — but simply one of the most delightful human beings with whom I ever shared some long days on set. On wit alone, he could double any man over and leave him thinking. Reg, your memory is a great blessing,” he wrote.
American Actor Chris Bauer was also among the actors who were nothing but praise for Cathey.
“Reg E. Cathey went out of his way to help me nearly 30 years ago, and I am one of hundreds. His legacy is a portrait of the courageous, open hearted generosity that all good work comes from.”
The Grown Up star Chris Rock also tweeted about the star’s death.
