An Egyptian Pop Star has been arrested on the charges of ‘inciting debauchery.’
Shaimaa Ahmed, who is better known as Shyma, was arrested on Saturday for her music video, Andy Zoorof.
In the video, the singer is seen wearing undies and eating a banana rather seductively. This video clip has sparked a fury.
The country voted worst for Women in the Arab world is Egypt. Women have to follow stringent rules there.
Shyma has outraged many people because of her video that seems to be against Egypt culture.
The singer was arrested one week after the video release; as people filed many complaints against her.
In the video of Andy Zoorof or ‘I Have Issues,’ Shyma is seen strutting in a bikini in front of a whole classroom full of boys.
Moreover, the blackboard behind her had #69 written on it.
She is seen eating bananas and crisps while making seductive gestures.
The young singer has apologized for the video on her, now-deleted, Facebook page.
“I apologize to all the people who saw the clip and were upset by it and took it inappropriately,” said Shyma.
She added, “I didn’t imagine all this would happen and I would be subjected to such a strong attack from everyone, as a young singer… who has dreamt for a young age to be a singer”.
Initially, Ahmed was prosecuted for four days, but the prosecutors on Monday decided to detain her for seven days instead.
A newspaper wrote, “Shyma presents a lesson of depravity to youth.”
Egypt and people there have very strict rules and Morales to which they hold on to.
Some time ago an Egyptian lawyer Nabih al-Wahsh spoke out that it is a national duty of a man to rape every woman who wears improper clothes.
“Are you happy when you see a girl walking down the street with half of her behind showing?”, said Nabih in an Interview.
“Do you think we don’t care about our girls?”, he added.
“I say that when a girl walks about like that, it is a patriotic duty to harass her sexually. And a national duty to rape her.”
“What she allows herself to do constitutes depravity,” says the lawyer.
According to a survey conducted by UN Women 43% Egyptian men think that women crave their attention. They believe that a woman wants to be sexually harassed and they admire this.
The Lawyer also added that “My daughter would also deserve that (rape) if she decided to wear jeans that ripped from the back.”

Another Famous Egyptian singer, Sherine Abdel-Wahab, is facing charges of harming the public interest. This went down after a video of one of her concerts was released.
When the singer was on stage, a fan asked her to perform a song whose name translates to: “Have you ever drunk from the Nile?“.
The singer refused and cracked a joke that how if she drinks from Nile she will get schistosomiasis, a waterborne disease also known as bilharzia.
“Drink Evian; It’s better,” Sherine further joked.
This created an uproar as to Egyptians river Nile is sacred and they pride over it. It seems like her sarcastic comment was seen as an Insult to Egypt.
Sherine will stand in the court of law in December for her joke.
