The newest nail trend to take social media by storm is corkscrew nails, which consist of an acrylic manicure that extends into a spiral on top of the nail.
Despite being extremely elaborate and meticulous to create, several people have started wearing these nails, and Instagram nail art pages are ablaze with the many different types of designs this nail art allows.
Several people have uploaded creative tutorials on Instagram showcasing the corkscrew nails and demonstrating how to achieve this unique look.
One such page, Kiara Sky Nails, has posted a step-by-step tutorial of how to create this look. She starts by coating the nail with acrylic and giving it some strength and length.
It is then finished with the acrylic coat by leaving a pointed edge at the end. There, a straw is attached at the end of the nail. A small amount of adhesive is needed to make sure the straw is perfectly attached, but applying more than necessary amount should be avoided since the straw has to be removed later.
The acrylic is then twisted around the nail, creating the spiral that the corkscrew nails are known for.
The spiral is further shaped and prodded into the perfect length and thickness that the nail will be able to support. It is then allowed to dry.
A small brush that fits between the spirals is key to making sure the finished product has a clean, refined look.
After it has dried, the straw is gently peeled out from under the spiral, making sure to not ruin the nail look. A coating of clear nail polish is added to give the nail extra strength and hold.
After the clear nail polish has dried, the nail can be decorated as wanted. The Instagram nail artist added crystals to the swirl, giving it an extra glamorous look!
Plenty of the fashion followers are awe struck with this new trend. And while many thought it is a great idea, some are concerned as to the practicality of such nails.
“Wow !!! That’s so cool quiet unique”, one user commented.
“Creative and pretty but definitely not practical lol,” another pointed out.
“Gonna break real quick”, a user cautioned in the comments below.
One user questioned the extent of extra that exists in 2018, “Tell me it’s only for show, no one is that extra or crazy to do this to themselves right??? Riiiiight???”
“Is it just me or is this just gone way over the line. Or the curly line”, another user had to redraw the line after watching the tutorial.
What are your thoughts on this new nail trend… Yay or Nay?
