Bruno Mars Bags Big Whilst Hillary Takes a Jibe at Trump! Here are the Best Moments from This Year’s GRAMMYs!

by Adil Ashraf

The grand GRAMMYs event held in New York’s Madison Square Garden was not short of memorable highlights and gave us plenty of things to talk about. Apart from the brilliant (and the oh-not-so-great performances), there was plenty of politics going around, too!

Here are the top talking-to points from the event!

Mars Wins Big!

Bruno Mars dominated the awards by bagging all 6 awards he was nominated for, including the two biggest ones, Album of the Year and Record of the Year. His album, 24K Magic, weaved its magic throughout the awards ceremony as Mars beat the likes, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z, for the Album of the Year award.

Kendrick Lamar also stole the show with his 4 wins and a top-class high octane performance!

Notable Absentees

The GRAMMYs almost felt empty without Drake, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and even Justin Bieber! It was almost a shock when Ed missed out on the Record, Song and Album top categories – and it was EVEN more awkward when he was not there to pick up his Best Pop Vocal Album (Divide) and Pop Solo Performance (Shape of You).

Taylor Swift, the 10 time Grammy Winner was not present as well but her absence was not really felt; she failed to bag a single award!

Fire and Fury!

The White House drama refuses to go away and it even made its way to the GRAMMYs stage, when Hillary Clinton read an excerpt from the recent bestseller, Fire and Fury! She was part of a skit in which she auditioned for the audio recording of the book.

Rest assured, a lot of people were not happy with Mr. President’s paranoia of being poisoned and thus eating McDonald’s, as informed by Clinton!

Time’s Up!

Kesha’s emotionally charged and extremely powerful performance of “Prayin” left everyone totally stunned; quite a few were reduced to tears. We all may forget this year’s GRAMMYs, but Kesha’s amazing performance will always be remembered for what it stood for.

The bold singer called out her former producer and sexual assaulter, Dr. Luke, moving many in the audience.

Even though the females did not dominate the awards, proceeding with Alessia Cara winning the Best New Artist, they did put on a massively powerful show in the face of sexual harassment. Sam Smith, Rita Ora and Lady Gaga all showcased their support for the #MeToo and Time’s Up campaigns by adorning their outfits with symbolic white roses.

So, there you have it. This year’s GRAMMYs certainly were happening, and we love how progressive they’ve become!
